How to Choose a Travel Vacation Destination

Need help with planning a vacation destination? When it comes time to choose a travel or vacation destination you’re going to be faced with an incredible amount of choice for places to go. To make it easier for you to choose where you are going to go there are 4 key things you need to consider. Write down your ideas as you read each section to help you narrow your choices down.

Right now we are deciding on how to choose a vacation destination for Spring Break and we are finding these factors are helping to plan where we are going to go for us.


1. Purpose:

If you don’t know why you want to go on vacation or what it is you want to do then you are really going to struggle in deciding a place to go. There are just too many choices available to not have a clear purpose in mind. What kind of holiday did you have in mind? Did you just want relaxation, beaches, adventure, skiing, cultural or historical. First discover the type of vacation you want and write it down. Now you are going to have some idea of what to look for. Right now we are looking for a relaxing beach getaway but a place that will also have a little action to keep us entertained. It’s essential for this trip that we also have Internet connection which is a big purpose factor directing our choice.

2. Weather:

You can always make the most of whatever conditions the weather brings you however you really want to set it up so you get the ideal conditions on your vacation. This is the one thing in life you cannot control so plan to get it as right as you can. If you are looking for a beach getaway then you want to be sure you are going to a place that has that sort of weather otherwise your vacation will be such a let down and waste of time. So too if you want to go skiing make sure you’re heading for sub-zero temperatures.

Right now I’m real mad at the weather as it has squashed my ideal holiday. I just wanted to escape from life for a week and camp on the beaches in Florida for some desperately needed sun! Except the sun is refusing to come out and play and so it’s back to the planning board. The next two factors are then essential for me to decide how to choose my vacation destination.

3. Time:

How much time do you have? If you’ve only got a week then you don’t want to waste too much time in the journey to get to your travel destination. If you have longer then your options are going to open up as longer travel times will work for you. How much time you have will also be a determinant for the activities you wish to do. If you only have a week then you don’t want to be trying to do too much as you will just wear yourself out. Shorter travel times mean you will be limited more to just one chosen destination. If you have longer you may be able to travel around the state or country more and go to more than one place. The place we most wanted to visit is Thailand. It’s our favorite destination and checks off all our boxes. However we only have a week for this holiday so we had to cross it off as the journey to get there is over a day each way.

4. Budget:

You can pretty much find a match for your  budget choices whatever destination you choose to travel to. So I would make this your last consideration. It could end up changing your ultimate decision though as it might not be budget enough. But at least you will have  a more specific place after considering your purpose, time and the destination weather. Budget has narrowed our choice down

to just US or Puerto Rico for this journey. We can get free flights with Craig’s work but have to pay taxes so if we go internationally this will put our budget too out. So now we have narrowed our choices down it’s going to be much easier for us to choose our travel destination. Except that weather is proving to be a real thorn in our side! Looks we’ve narrowed it down to Puerto Rico!

Now you have taken into consideration these factors to help with planning a vacation destination you can easily choose one and start booking. All you have to do now is choose places to stay and activities based on your budget.
