Perched on a pier jutting into Alexandria Bay in New York's scenic
1000 Islands region, the unpretentious Riveredge Resort is the town's
leading hotel. Most rooms have a balcony that offers side views of the
1000 Islands and Boldt Castle on Heart Island directly across the bay. Water lovers also will appreciate the resort's indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
Guest Rooms at Riveredge Resort:
Sixteen
out of 129 guest rooms at Riveredge feature a Jacuzzi tub for two, a
nice touch on a romantic getaway. In the one-level Jacuzzi suites, the
tub is a few feet away from the bed. There is a separate bathroom with a
shower. Bi-level loft suites feature a bedroom on the first floor and
the Jacuzzi in the loft above.
Dining at Riveredge Resort:
Riveredge
Resort has two restaurants, both located at the far end of the pier,
and they boast magnificent views. The modest Windows on the Bay
restaurant — where a handful of potato chips passes for a side dish at
lunch — is located on the lobby level and is open for breakfast, lunch,
and dinner.

A few floors above, waiters at the AAA
Four-Diamond-winning Jacques Cartier room serve French/Continental fare
with flair. You'll want to wear your best to feel at ease in the opulent
room.
Weddings at Riveredge Resort:
Many
couples marry at Boldt Castle and cross the bay for a Riveredge
reception. The resort has a wedding coordinator who can assist with
details, and the catering department offers reception packages at a
variety of price points. Since so many area weddings take place here,
the staff has ample resources to recommend for flowers, photos, music,
and everything else that makes a wedding memorable. Special overnight
rates are available when booking blocks of ten rooms or more.
Packages at Riveredge Resort:
The
Fun Time package includes two nights' accommodations, meals, a souvenir
bottle of champagne, and activity passes. In summer, the deal includes a
1000 Islands sightseeing cruise and admission to Boldt Castle as well
as the Antique Boat Museum in the neighboring town of Clayton. Winter
packages revolve around themed weekends such as Murder Mystery, Spa
& Fitness, Wine Tasting and Gourmet Cooking, and others.
Sailing to Riveredge Resort:
The
resort maintains more than 2,000 feet of dock space that can
accommodate vessels up to 150 feet in length. Power, water, and cable TV
hookups are available. Boaters have access to restrooms, showers, and
laundry at the resort. The most popular time for seafarers to visit the
resort is Father's Day weekend, when Riveredge hosts the annual In Water
Boat Show.
Is Riveredge Resort Right for You?:
If
you want an affordable, laidback vacation at an Alexandria Bay resort
that can serve as your home base for outdoor and water-oriented
adventures in the 1000 Islands, you may well enjoy a stay at Riveredge.
What Could be Improved at Riveredge Resort?:
Design-conscious
sophisticates may find the pink-and-blue decor grandmotherly, and the
rooms themselves, while clean, could use some freshening up. Chairs sag
and cable TV does not feature premium channels. Balconies are tiny.
