The longest total lunar eclipse—or blood moon—of the 21st century will take place Friday and Saturday when the earth moves directly between the sun and the moon, creating a captivating reddish glow. While North America will be shut out of the viewing party, a handful of notable international cities are likely to have a front-row seat to the show.

The Egyptian capital is in for a treat as it will benefit from not only a prime location but clear skies this summer. The total eclipse is scheduled to begin around 9:30 p.m. local time Friday, with the red glow lasting for approximately two hours.

Dubai will experience more than 90 minutes of totality, with the whole eclipse beginning around 11:30 p.m. local time Friday. Visitors should head to one of the top floors of any of the city's many skyscrapers for a unique view of the blood moon. Like Cairo, clear skies should make for a memorable sighting.
