Instagram is awash with stunning photos of hydrangea gardens, and one such area of beauty is the Unsho-ji Temple in Kitaura, Oga-shi, Akita Prefecture.

Here, thousands of hydrangea plants create a stunning sea of blue blossoms, and as you can guess, it's a tourist hotspot. There are many other popular hydrangea spots, including the Meigetsu-in Temple in Kamakura, which is often referred to as a hydrangea temple.

In Japan, hydrangeas bloom during rainy season (between June and July), and these bundles of deep, vibrant blooms bring nothing but pure joy!
