Divorced Woman Travels the World in Her Wedding Dress

A real-life Eat, Pray, Love tale.

By Sam Escobar, Good Housekeping

Anyone who's been through a divorce knows how stressful it can be. The emotional implications of losing a friend, a partner, and a support system can be as devastating as a death in the family. Some people push past the grief using therapy, others take up hobbies to distract themselves, but one woman came up with a truly unique coping mechanism: traveling the world wearing her wedding dress.

[post_ads]When 49-year-old Pavlina Melicharova from the Czech Republic walked away from her unhappy marriage, she decided to take a sort of Eat, Pray, Love approach to her breakup. In October, she began to travel. Unlike the author of the aforementioned memoir, however, Melicharova went to way more than three places — and did it all while wearing her wedding gown, veil and all.

Thailand and Turkey, India and Nepal, United Arab Emirates and Myanmer — Melicharova has been so many places, snapping similar photos at each to post on her Facebook page, The Traveling Bride.

"At first I planned to help those in bad relationships to do something new and positive for them — anything that can make them happy," she told the Daily Mail.  "I think the project can inspire others to change not only broken relationships but anything in life which makes them unhappy and sad."

Her blog is reminiscent of the wildly popular "Follow Me To" series by photographer Murad Osmann and journalist Nataly Osmann, a husband-wife duo whose Instagram account is followed by nearly 4 million users. The biggest difference between their series and Melicharova's: The latter is a solo journey, making it more about self-exploration and adventure than romance. Now those will be some wedding dress photos to remember.

Where will the Traveling Bride go next? Follow her on Facebook to find out.
