Black Friday is just around the corner once more and all of the major
brands and stores are getting ready for all of the crazy discounts to
receive tons and tons of visitors. This is a day when a lot of people go
out and shop for whatever they need or want in hopes of saving a bit of
money while buying quality stuff.
It started as a US thing but
the trend has become incredibly popular around the world in the last
couple of years and now it is done in many countries around the world.
The internet has also allowed customers from different countries to be
able to enjoy the discounts.
However, during this time of the
year, some of the smallest businesses struggle a bit to catch buyer’s
attention. That is because most can’t afford to offer the large
discounts that the big companies do.
The same thing happens to
small and not so well known countries. Most of the time they can’t
compete with the more popular destinations such as Rome which is a place
that almost everyone knows about and wants to visit eventually.
That is how the tourism board of Belize came up with a new fun
idea that was inspired on Black Friday. They decided to call it Small
Country Sunday. This will be a day to honor small nations and encourage
travelers to book their adventure somewhere new.The
idea is to give exposure to small countries and encourage travelers to
book small and experience a unique and memorable vacation. The date
chosen for this new way of celebrating less known destinations is
November 29.
Aside from doing as much promotion as they can the
Belizean tourism board is encouraging all travelers to help them spread
the word on all of their social media platforms. The idea is to share
why they want to travel small in 2016 using #SmallCountrySunday. In
exchange for that help a traveler or hashtagger will win a trip for two
to visit this tiny and tropical country.
After visiting Belize I
can say that it is a great prize, especially because all you have to do
to enter is to share a hashtag on social media. This is a tiny country
in northern Central America with a Caribbean coast, many small islands
with untamed beaches, lush jungles, ancient ruins and exotic wildlife.
How to enter:
That’s it! You entered to win one of the two trips.
Two winners will be randomly selected at 7 p.m. CST on Sunday, November 29. To see more information on the rules click here for official rules. If you want more details the Belize Tourism Board has also created a video for Small Country Sunday, which explains the need for this holiday.
Finally
I leave you with the words of Karen Bevans, Director of Tourism at the
Belize Tourism Board: “Small Country Sunday is a movement to connect
travelers to countries like Belize, who struggle to compete with the big
budgets and infrastructure that many larger countries have. This
program will directly impact the livelihood of many small business
owners and families who rely on tourism.”
What do you think about
this new movement to bring attention to not so popular countries and
destinations? Do you think that reading about it motivated you to travel
small?
