Thailand has plenty of beautiful sights to see, but there’s one particular spot that is considered the most gorgeous place in the country.
Mae Ya waterfall, located in Doi Inthanon National Park in the Chiang Mai Province, is a stunning and surprisingly secluded area that’s less than a two hour drive from Chiang Mai City.
It’s actually not the most popular waterfall to visit, since there are no other tourist attractions nearby, but that might be all the more reason to take a day trip. The water gracefully flows over the rocky steps of the slope, creating a unique type of cascade. According to some reviews on TripAdvisor, many tourists who have gone to Mae Ya reported that they were often the only ones there when they arrived.
And the best part: it’s perfectly acceptable to go swimming at the base. We don’t recommend any diving, but it is a quiet and peaceful place to take a dip.
To get to the waterfall from the city, simply drive about 66 kilometers via Route 108. Once you get to your parking spot, it’s only an easy 500 meter walk to the falls. You can also schedule a day tour.
While there aren’t a lot of other attractions in walking distance, you can also drive to some other amazing sights, like the cherry blossom trees at Khun Wang, the Kiew Mae Pan Nature Trail or just explore the national park.
