3 Reasons We Can’t Stop Talking About Puerto Vallarta

When you land in Puerto Vallarta, you’re landing in the state of Jalisco. The birthplace of mariachi and tequila. But, if you think it’s just traditional spirits and original rhythms, think again. Puerto Vallarta is tucked between the lush mountains of the Sierra Madre Occidental and the Pacific Ocean on Mexico’s west coast. And it’s where you’ll find charming streets, surprising seas, and laid-back vibes.

Old Town charm

With cobble stone streets and red-roofed historic zones, this little port town is charming as can be. The winding, narrow streets are filled with vendors, cafes, tapas spots and even breweries. For some historic architecture, take in the beauty of the iconic Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe. As the daylight dwindles, take a sunset stroll along the boardwalk (locally known as El Malecon) to check out local entertainers and vendors. 

Surprises at sea

Alright. There’s only one way to say it: This is going to be epic. Whether you head out on a whale-watching expedition or cruise out to explore the beaches of Marietas Islands National Park, you’ll make memories that will last a lifetime. Humpback whales splash around Banderas Bay from December to February, and catching one of their acrobatic shows is simply a must. Then make a splash of your own at one of the exciting beaches at Marietas Islands National Park. The hidden Lovers Beach seems straight from a fantasy, but you can make it happen with a little effort. Just be ready to swim.

Surfs up

Just north of Puerto Vallarta, you’ll find Riviera Nayarit. A sun-kissed coastline naturally decorated with 200 miles of golden beaches, green mountains and blue surf. You’d have no problem spending weeks hopping from beach town to beach town, but Sayulita is one of our favorites for surf, arts and OMG-good grub. Make a day of checking out local art, sampling fresh fish tacos, and catching waves.
