The World’s Biggest Flower Garden Sits in the Middle of a Desert

Dubai is a city known for its extreme attractions, from a massive 1.5 million-square-foot indoor theme park to a sprawling indoor ski resort. The mesmerizing Dubai Miracle Garden is another on the list.

With more than 45 million flowers, the 18-acre has a claim to be the biggest flower garden in the world. The space creates a whimsical sight for visitors, who are treated to floral structures in an array of bold colors.

But perhaps what’s most fascinating about the natural space is that it's in the middle of the desert.

We’ve put together a collection of images that show just how stunning this garden is. Take a look and see for yourself.

Romance Throughout

Large archways in the shape of hearts that sit covered in flowers invite guests inside the park.

Visitors will feel as though they're walking through an immersive art exhibit as they explore the quirky and intricate displays that make up the garden. Designs change each season.

It took 60 days and 400 people to create the garden, where more than 60 different varieties of flowers, including those like petunias and geraniums that are rare to the Middle East, thrive.

You'll even see clusters of homes that make up what looks like an entire neighborhood blanketed in a colorful array of buds. Props help make the scene all the more whimsical, with upside-down cars, flamingos, and parrots.

The Biggest One of All

Dubai Miracle Garden is also where you'll find the biggest flower arrange in the world, a replica of an Emirates Airbus A380 that sits covered in more than 500,000 fresh flowers and plants.

When all of its flowers are in full bloom, the full-size aircraft structure has some five million flowers.

Walkways of Wonder

When you're in need of some rest or shade, there are even flower beds that create a marvelous shaded archway for you to gaze up at.

Life in the Desert

To help the flowers grow, the garden installed an irrigation system that re-uses waste water through drip irrigation, using materials like capillary mats and polymers to retain and distribute the water, Abdel Nasser Y. Rahhal of Akar Landscaping Services and Agriculture told NBC.

“People get tired of malls, closed places...I hope people will understand that this country is not only for extremes in concrete and steel,” Rahhal said. “This country is given beautiful weather for seven months… with a little care, you can get a really beautiful production.”

A Calm Oasis

The outdoor area offers a relaxing retreat from hustle of city life. More than 1.5 million people visit each year.
