The 7 Best Places to Eat in Savannah, According to Locals

In the first-ever issue of Airbnbmag, on stands May 23, Savannah locals shared seven of their favorite places to eat and drink like a local in the Georgia city.

B's Cracklin' BBQ

To make B's Cracklin' BBQ stand out co-owner Bryan Furman uses heritage breed pork, which are "old breeds that the commodity system wouldn't accept because they don't grow as fast," he told Airbnbmag. "There's a little more fat, a little more flavor. I feel like a lot of people are trying to disguise their food. I really want people to taste the meat."

                

The Florence

Whenever Furman has time off from his own restaurant, he goes to The Florence, Hugh Acheson's place on W. Victory Dr.

"They make killer Italian food, and they let me come in with my Georgia boots on, my cargo pants, and a yellow B's Cracklin' shirt," Furman said. "I could just be getting off work, and I'll call Chef Kyle, and I'll be like 'Hey, man, can I come in? I know I'm supposed to be dressed up,' and he's like, 'Man, come on, come on in!' I'm at home when I go to The Florence."

Flying Monk Noodle Bar

"My favorite dishes are the NaNaNoodles — wide rice noodles stir-fried with egg — and the Bangkok Curry," Mikhaela Sarmiento, a student at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), told Airbnbmag about Flying Monk Noodle Bar. "Both pack so much flavor."

         

Zunzi's

Even though the restaurant's tight quarters means there's always a line, Zunzi's is worth the wait. "My favorite sandwich to order there is the Godfather with chicken and smoked sausage with tons of different house sauces," Sarmiento recommends. "I always get their South African tea — it's addicting!"

Leopold's

For a cool treat, locals head to Leopold's for ice cream. "All the ice cream there is handmade, and every month they have special seasonal flavors, like Japanese cherry blossom and lavender," Sarmiento says. "I could eat five scoops of just that."

                   

Bubba Gumbo's

If you don't pack a picnic for a day at the beaches on Tybee Island, Liza Battestin, a grad student at SCAD, recommends heading to a fish shack on Lazaretto Creek called Bubba Gumbo's for fresh shrimp and oysters.

The Olde Pink House

For an authentic Savannah experience, make sure to stop by The Olde Pink House. "Head to the basement," Airbnb host Sarah Arcangelo told Airbnbmag. "Very few people know about it. There's a piano, huge fireplaces, and a tavern feel that is 100% Savannah"
