Why Northern Europe Is a Great Choice for Summer Cruises

Northern Europe cruises include those to the Baltic, Scandinavia, Norwegian fjords, the British Isles, and islands of the northern Atlantic. Whatever the area is called -- it's a wonderful summer cruise destination! The hotel and dining costs can be very expensive in northern Europe, which makes a cruise tour of the area even more attractive.
[post_ads_2]
Cruisers going to northern Europe have diverse choices of prices, ships, and cruise lines. The cruising season to northern Europe, Scandinavia, and the Baltic states runs from mid-April into October, with the busiest (and most expensive) cruises in June, July, and August. Here is a list of the major cruise lines for Scandinavia, the Baltic, and northern Europe (listed alphabetically).

Azamara Club Cruises
The Azamara Quest of Azamara Club Cruises sails a variety of 10 to 14-day cruises from Stockholm, Copenhagen, London, and Edinburgh in northern Europe in 2016.

Celebrity Cruises
The Celebrity Silhouette cruises to northern Europe from Amsterdam or Stockholm with 12-14 day cruises, and the Celebrity Eclipse sails from Southampton roundtrip on 14-day cruises to northern Europe.
Both ships also feature British Isles cruise itineraries.

Costa Cruises[post_ads_2]
Costa Cruises has four ships with several different 7- to 14-day itineraries in the Baltic and northern Europe in 2016--the Costa Favolosa, Costa Pacifica, Costa neoRomantica, and Costa Luminosa.

Cruise and Maritime Voyages
Cruise and Maritime Voyages sends the Marco Polo and the Magellan to the British Isles, northern Europe, and the Baltic in the summer of 2016. The ships will sail from a variety of ports on 6 to 36-day voyages.

Crystal Cruises
The Crystal Symphony is in northern Europe for the summer of 2016. The ship sails to the Baltic, Iceland, British Isles, and to the fjords of western Norway.

Cunard Line
The Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth feature cruises to northern Europe, Iceland, the British Isles, and the Baltic in 2016.

Holland America Line
HAL sends four ships to northern Europe from May through early September in the summer of 2016. The Zuiderdam, Prinsendam, Rotterdam VI, and the brand new Koningsdam will all be sailing in northern Europe and to the Baltic capitals. The Rotterdam does the popular 35-day "Voyage of the Vikings" roundtrip from Boston to northern Europe and return.

Hurtigruten[post_ads_2]
Most of Hurtigruten's ships serve as both a cruise line and a ferry service for the towns and small villages along the fjords on the western coast of Norway. Hurtigruten operates these voyages year-round between Bergen and Kirkenes, so those who want to experience Norway during a season other than summer can choose one of these voyages. In addition to the coastal Norway cruises, the expedition ship MS Flam sails to Greenland from Copenhagen during the summer months.

Lindblad Expeditions
The National Geographic Explorer does two circumnavigations of Iceland in the summer of 2016 on 8 or 9-day voyages. The National Geographic Orion sails to northern Europe and the British Isles on 7-day voyages that can be combined into 14-day sailings.

MSC Cruises
Italian line MSC Cruises sends the MSC Splendida, Opera, and Musica to northern Europe, the Baltic, and the British Isles in the summer of 2016. The three ships sail a variety of 7-14 day itineraries from several different ports.

Norwegian Cruise Line
Norwegian Cruise Line has the Northern Star cruise ship in northern Europe and the Baltic in 2016, primarily sailing roundtrip from Copenhagen on 9-day cruises.

Oceania Cruises
The Marina, Insignia, Sirena, and Nautica will sail 9 to 64-day cruises to northern Europe for Oceania in 2016 from a variety of different ports.

Ponant Yacht Cruises
The small ships Le Soleal and Le Boreal sail to the Baltic and Northern Europe on 7-13 day voyages from London, Dublin, Glasgow, Bergen, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Reykjavik, and Spitsbergen.

Princess Cruises[post_ads_2]
The Pacific Princess, Regal Princess, Emerald Princess, and Caribbean Princess all have Baltic and northern European itineraries in 2016. The Regal Princess sails a similar itinerary to the delightful one I did on the Royal Princess in 2014.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises
The Regent Seven Seas Voyager will be cruising British Isles and northern European cruises on 7 to 57-day voyages for much of the summer of 2016.

Royal Caribbean International
Royal Caribbean features the Ovation of the Seas, Serenade of the Seas, Independence of the Seas, and the Harmony of the Seas in northern Europe for 2016. They sail from Southampton, Copenhagen, and Stockholm on a variety of itineraries.

Seabourn Cruises
The Seabourn Quest sails northern Europe from Copenhagen or Stockholm in the summer of 2016 for Seabourn Cruises.

Silversea Cruises
The Silver Wind and Silver Whisper will spend the summer in Scandinavia, the British Isles, and Northern Europe on a variety of 7-15 day cruises in the Baltic area and around the North Sea in 2016. The exploration ship Silver Explorer will cruise the British Isles, north Atlantic, northern Europe, and the Arctic.

Swan Hellenic
The Swan Hellenic Minerva will feature several cruises of 11 to 30 days sailing roundtrip from Portsmouth to northern Europe and the Baltic in the summer of 2015.

Viking Cruises
Viking Cruises launches its second ocean-going ship in 2016, the Viking Sea. She will join the Viking Star on northern European itineraries. Most of the voyages sail for 14 days between Bergen and Stockholm, but some sail from London.

Voyages of Discovery[post_ads_2]
Voyages of Discovery will have the MV Voyager sailing northern Europe voyages from Portsmouth and Harwich in the summer of 2016.

Windstar Cruises
The Wind Surf and Star Legend sail British Isles and northern Europe on 7- to 11-day voyages in the summer of 2016.

Visit these web sites and check out the diversity of ships and cruise itineraries. With the wide variety of cruises offered, there should be a great cruise to the British Isles, northern Europe, or the Baltic States that will fit your budget and vacation time.
