Wondering where to live in San Diego when you're young and single and want to have fun? I've compiled a list. And no, you don’t technically have to be single to enjoy living in these places. My husband and I happily lived as a couple in one of the places on this list for years (PB we still miss you!), but as a general rule, these are the top places where you’ll find 20-somethings (and oftentimes 30-somethings) partying it up each night in packs while simultaneously building their careers, all while enjoying the San Diego lifestyle.
Downtown
[post_ads]Or more specifically, the Gaslamp Quarter,
is where young adults in San Diego should move if they want a big city
feel. Live in brand new high rises or old walk-ups and enjoy an easy
car-free commute to the office if you work downtown. On weekends, hit up
the hot and happening night clubs for cocktails and dancing.

The Gaslamp Quarter borders the San Diego
harbor, which provides a scenic place for a morning run or leisurely
afternoon weekend walk after brunch with friends.
Hillcrest
Hillcrest
is a short jaunt from the Gaslamp Quarter and feels like a mini
downtown with shops spreading out from University Avenue and a variety
of trendy, gourmet restaurants. It has cute bungalow-style homes plus
apartments so provides many housing options for young adults. Hillcrest
also has an active LGBT scene.
Pacific Beach
Pacific Beach
(commonly referred to as PB) is party central for many young adults,
especially those just out of college. Garnet Avenue is lined with bars
straight to the ocean and a variety of apartments and houses spread out
from Garnet making it easy to find a place to live close to the action
and the beach.
Mission Beach
South of PB lies Mission Beach, which
matches PB in its love for dive bars and beaches and ups the ante for
outdoor lovers with a massive boardwalk and close proximity to Mission Bay which is ideal for jet skiing and standup paddle boarding.
Ocean Beach
Located
just south of Mission Beach, Ocean Beach (commonly referred to as OB)
is a bit more laidback and a lot more hippie compared to its neighbors
to the north.

Surfing, supporting local businesses, a wide beach with strong waves for surfing and a long pier, plus simple bars and restaurants that don’t skimp on quality make for a special place to live.
North Park
Despite
not bordering a beach, North Park is quickly becoming the preeminent
place for young urbanites and hipsters to call home. It’s also quickly
becoming unaffordable for many young people due to that popularity
though deals can still be found if you time to be patient and are
flexible with your housing must-haves.
South Park
The
current up and coming neighborhood with an uptown vibe for young people
to live is South Park. With a booming craft beer scene and affordable
housing, it’s an ideal option to North Park or Hillcrest for those who
want to live somewhere with a hipster vibe that has an easy commute to
downtown without losing all their money to rent each month.
No
matter your personality or the atmosphere you’re looking for, you can
find a San Diego neighborhood filled with other like-minded young adults
to live in and enjoy.
