Summer is on its way, and with it comes the opening of three new hotels: Aloft South Beach, The Chequit, and New York EDITION.
THE CHEQUIT, Opening May 8
[post_ads_2]
This circa 1872 Shelter Island sleep from Salt Hotels,
known for their modern bed-and-breakfasts in Provincetown, has been
restored and is ready for guests as of the second weekend in May. 37
guest rooms are spread across three buildings: the Main House, the
Cottage, and the Summer House.
The inn’s design was inspired by the golden age
of vacationing on Shelter Island at the turn of the last century, but
with a modern twist. Rooms are finished in a palette of blush and French
gray, with tribal-patterned rugs scattered on hardwood floors and
furniture in bright pops of color. Bathrooms come stocked with products
from C.O.
[post_ads]Bigelow and rooms feature mod cons like mini
fridges and complimentary WIFI. Breakfasts of freshly baked pastries,
seasonal fruit, and homemade granola is included in the stay, and rustic
small plates and wood-fired flatbreads will be offered for lunch and
dinner at the inn's Red Maple restaurant, helmed by Chef Richard Pims.
Want to hit the beach? Grab-and-go picnic fare will also be available
and the White Hill Cafe in the Main House. (Rates from $195 per night)
NEW YORK EDITION, Opening May 14
[post_ads_2]
The latest entry from hotelier Ian Schrager, the New York EDITION,
opens mid-month in the iconic Clocktower building on Madision Avenue in
the Flatiron District of Manhattan. The hotel's interiors take their
inspiration from the grand mansions of the city's Millionaires' Row at
the turn of the 20th Century.
In the lobby, guests will be met with classic
Venetian plaster walls, a 30-foot-long blackened steel fireplace,
Jean-Michael Frank-inspired tables and chairs from the 1920s, and
sculptural spiral staircase that leads up to the second floor. British
chef Jason Atherton will helm the second-floor restaurant overlooking
Madison Square Park, while a topnotch fitness center and spa is planned
for the 39th Floor.
273 guest rooms have an apartment-style feel
with beds crated from dark walnut, bespoke nightstands and, in many
suites, 180-degree view of Manhattan.
ALOFT SOUTH BEACH, Opening May 28
[post_ads_2]
Building on the foundation of the historic 1954 Ankara Motel, the 235-room Aloft South Beach preserved
the Art Deco-inspired exterior while creating a newly constructed
interior with contemporary elements--a translucent staircase welcomes
guests into the two-story lobby while the bar and lounge features a
custom chandelier by Yellow Goat Design made from 1,000 colored acrylic
lighting rods. There's plenty to keep guests busy here. The third
level's Plunge pool deck is outfitted with daybeds under a canopy of
Strawberry Guava trees and the pool bar has bocce, beanbag toss, and
other games to while away the afternoon. On the main, floor re:mix
lounge will host a live music series, while W XYZ bar serves up
cocktails crafted from ingredients plucked from the hotel's herb garden.
Work up an appetite at the 24/7 gym, kayaking off the hotel's dock,
taking a paddle board yoga class, or pedaling the hotel's raspberry-hued
beach cruiser bicycles to explore the shops on nearby Lincoln Road.
When hunger strikes, head to Continental Miami, where Chef Stephen Starr
serves up continental cuisine and Asian specialties. (Rates from $229
per night).
