Top 10 Vacation Spots for Celebrity Spotting

When celebrities need a break from filming Oscar-nominated movies or recording platinum albums, where do they go? Condé Nast Traveler's Jeffrey Slonim spoke to stars like Bryan Cranston, Andy Cohen, and Kate Bosworth on red carpets around the country this year to find out where they had their greatest vacations ever—and where they're eager to go again.



Bryan Cranston - Italy

Prior to the Tony Awards, on the red carpet with his wife Robin on his arm, Bryan Cranston spoke of Italy. “We love to go back to Italy,” he said. “We were there on our honeymoon 26 years ago, and we spent like five weeks in Europe at that time. We also went to a beautiful wedding in Lake Como four or five years ago.”



Trudie Styler - Italy

On the red carpet at the Tony Awards, Sting was almost unrecognizable with his large, Edwardian beard. His wife, Trudie Styler answered:“Il Palaggio, our house in Tuscany. I gave birth to our daughter Coco in Pisa, so I very much feel I’ve been embraced by the Italian lifestyle, the Italian people. We’ve been going there for 24 years now, so I feel like it’s another home, really.”



Dylan Penn - Italy

Dylan Penn, Sean Penn and Robin Wright's daughter, was at a party for Coach at New York's High Line when we chatted. “I’m in love with France and Italy, so anywhere there," she said. "I'm obsessed with Capri. I’ve gone there a couple of times. I love Italians in general, and it’s the food, and they have the most beautiful scenery. To be able to swim in the Mediterranean every day...it’s amazing!”



Georgia May Jagger - Japan

At a recent Sunglass Hut event, model Georgia May Jagger, a spokesmodel for the company and Mick Jagger’s daughter, spoke of Kyoto, Japan. "I always like to go back to Japan,” she answered. “Kyoto is so amazing. Seeing the different season changes, the blossoms. Autumn there is just so incredibly beautiful. There are 2,000 different temples all over the city. It’s very quiet."



Kate Bosworth - The Maldives

“It’s very far,” Kate Bosworth (also at the Coach event), said of her pick, the Maldives. “But it’s one of my favorite places on earth. I think that because it is so far, once you get there, you feel as if you’ve been dropped on another planet. And there is a calm that ensues. The attachment to everything chaotic is gone."



Johnny Weir - Russia

Former Olympic skater Johnny Weir has traveled the world for competitions. At the Fragrance Foundation Awards, though, he called out one city in particular. “There still is a kind of grittiness to Moscow,” he said. "It is a very luxurious, wonderful city. Every time I walk into Red Square, my heart stops. When you are as traveled as I am, you have to take note of that. I love the Russian soul. I speak the language. For me, Moscow is inspirational."



Suki Waterhouse - Brazil

British model Suki Waterhouse also made a cameo at the High Line. Her pick? Brazil. "I went for work, but I just met people. I decided to stay the weekend, and it was just amazing how many people I met took me on journeys there. They took me skydiving, and they took me to favela parties. They took me everywhere; and I’ve never experienced that anywhere else."



Andy Cohen - Brazil

During arrivals at amfAR, we chatted with Andy Cohen, who was being honored that evening. "Trancoso, Brazil," he said. It’s beautiful; it’s like Brigadoon. It’s this unbelievable place, and not a lot of Americans go there. It’s great."



Rita Wilson - Greece

At the Tonys, Rita Wilson named her favorite spot. "Well, I love Greece,” she suggested. "I love anywhere in nature, really, but I can’t tell you exactly where, because people might go there," she added, laughing.


Victoria Justice - Australia

Where would actress Victoria Justice like to return? "Hamilton Island in Australia,” she said at the amfAR Inspiration Awards. "I got to fly over the Great Barrier Reef in a seaplane to get there, and it was magical." Might we suggest Victoria become a new BFF of Taylor Swift, since the singer just took her whole entourage there? View our list of readers' choice awards
