Craving a getaway but not quite sure
where to go? Here are five wanderlust-worthy vacation ideas to put on
your radar for November.

Palm Springs, California
“November in the desert evokes similar feelings in our hearts as
springtime does for most of the world,” says Palm Springs-based Chef
Michael Beckman, whose restaurants Workshop and Truss & Twine
are among some of the city’s most popular hotspots. “We can set back
out hiking, cycling, dining al fresco—all the things that make this
place iconic—while the rest of the country is steeped in winter storms.”
The Parker, The Colony Palms, and L’Horizon are generally considered the area’s top hotels, but design enthusiasts will relish the chance to stay in one of the area's signature Mid-Century Modern homes (AirBnB has hundreds available.) One thing not to miss: dinner and dancing at Melvyn’s, the beloved Old Hollywood haunt that counts Frank Sinatra, Elvis, and Marilyn Monroe as some of its famous regulars.

The Bahamas
While the Caribbean destination tends to overflow with families during the holidays in December, go a month earlier and you’ll be treated to sunny days sans screaming kids, plus less expensive airfare. “November is my one my favorite months. The hustle and bustle of high season hasn't kicked in, average temperatures are in the 80’s, and the water temperature is lovely,” says Michael King-Hew, the proprietor of Kamalame Cay, a private island resort in the Bahamas. King-Hew specifically suggests coming the first week in November, when the resort hosts its annual wellness retreat. “It’s the perfect way to get rested and in shape before the start of the hectic holiday season.”Peninsula Papagayo, Costa Rica
Located
on the north Pacific coast of Costa Rica, the 15-mile peninsula is home
to lush jungles, postcard perfect beaches, and five-star hotels. It is
decidedly remote (the nearest “town” is a 45 minute drive away) but
sometimes, remoteness is exactly what a winter getaway calls for. Though
Papagayo is the kind of place where you might be tempted to never leave
the confines of your resort—there’s an Andaz, a Four Seasons, and a community
of luxury villas to rent—it also caters to adventure lovers, with
activities like ziplining, jetskiing, and four-wheeling through the
jungle. Stick with later in the month to avoid any lingering rain (rainy
season goes from May to early November.)

The
secret to a pleasurable European vacation in November? Go south. While
cities like London, Paris, and Berlin feel the winter chill this time of
year, Lisbon has the good fortune of a subtropical Mediterranean
climate—which means temperatures are in the mid 60s. Book a room at the
landmark Tivoli Lisboa
in the center of the city. The luxury property sits on Avenida da
Liberdade, a bustling boulevard that’s akin to New York’s Fifth Avenue.
Ask the hotel to arrange a “Vintage Lisbon” walking tour and explore the
city’s rich art and architecture scene.
